Salvation Army of Galveston founded in 1865 by William Booth to minister to the homeless in Victorian England, The Salvation Army was brought to Houston in 1889 by Captain Hattie B. Savage and her band of three other women.

They were literally a band playing the guitar, drum, banjo, and accordion.
