End Homelessness Ability Housing's mission is to provide quality, affordable, community inclusive housing for individuals and families at risk of homelessness and adults with a disability.

Their goal is to end homelessness in Northeast Florida.

Who are the homeless?

  • For many reasons it is difficult to fully account for the actual number of homeless in their community.

Many sleep in their cars, in the woods, or other hard-to-locate areas.

The difficulty in accurately counting the homeless is compounded by the fact that the numbers do not include those living with others due to economic need or in motels due to lack of adequate housing.

According to the US Department of Housing and Urban Development Point In Time survey, 4,416 Jacksonville residents were homeless on a given day in January 2011 (the most recent accurate report)

12.8% are veterans

30.3% report having a disability

Families are the fastest growing segment of the homeless population in their community

The Duval County Public Schools identified over 1,900 children as homeless or at risk of homelessness as defined by the McKinney-Vento Act Jacksonville ranks 14th in the nation in the number of homeless.

One of the most frequently self-reported reasons for homelessness is the inability to afford housing.

Housing is severely cost-burdened when a household spends 50% or more of their monthly income for housing.

38,430 (10.6%) Jacksonville households are severely cost-burdened (University of Florida Shimberg Center for Housing Studies)
